Summer is round the corner and we couldn’t be happier. As the weather starts to heat up, many of us will be looking at our wardrobes and considering how best to update them. Here at Official Vintage, we pride ourselves on being one of the best vintage clothing stores Melbourne has to offer. We have carefully handpicked quality authentic vintage items to help you stand out from the crowd. Our collection has been thoughtfully curated, where our retro pieces have stood the test of time and will last you for years to come. We’ve selected our favourite trends for summer 2020, and you’ll hopefully have a few of these items in your closet already!
Co-ordinated Sets
Matching sets are a super popular trend for both menswear and womenswear this year. Who doesn’t love a bit of coordination? Co-ords come with the added benefit of being able to wear each item independently, which is ideal if you are wanting to get maximum wear out of your garments. The versatility of being able to wear items as separate pieces doubles their wearability, giving you variety in your wardrobe and more bang for your buck. You’ll see this trend everywhere at festivals this summer, partly due to the fact that there’s more room in your luggage for other pieces! Go big with bold prints and patterns, or if you are wanting to keep things low-key, opt for subtle colour palettes.
Bucket Hats
Protection from the sun is a must in Australia, so a hat should be an essential part of anyone’s wardrobe. But although it might be a practical necessity, why not have a bit of fun with it too? Soft pastel hues are on trend, with gorgeous nude, citrus and marine tone set to match any outfit on a hot summer’s day. If you’re feeling adventurous and are wanting to go for something a bit more striking, bold patterns and bright cord bucket hats are also trending this season.
Tie-Dye
A trend that never really goes out of fashion, tie-dye is making a big comeback this summer. One of the most wearable trends on our list, you’ll see tie-dye used in a variety of garments – from dresses and t-shirts to hats and bikinis. It’s perfect for when you want to upgrade your look coming out of lockdown, where you can look stylish but stay relaxed and comfortable. Nothing beats a cosy big tie-dye tee with some cute denim cut offs and strappy sandals for an effortlessly cool look.
Oversize Dresses
Scandi brands have really led this trend for the summer cool-girl aesthetic. Featuring flowing, puffy sleeves for a Victorian-era inspired look, volume and shape create the illusion of a smaller frame and waist. This type of dress is a style that will suit most body shapes which is a plus! This style is also reminiscent of the puff sleeve from the 80s – a trend that always seems to come back into fashion. Soft pastels or bright pops of colour are a great choice heading into summer. Lace and cute check and gingham patterns are also going to be big this season.
Sheer Shirts
A big menswear trend that used to be reserved for rock music icons and fun street parades like Mardi Gras has finally gone mainstream, and we are here for it. Typically made from beautiful materials like mesh, tulle and organza, this looks pretty bold and not for the fainthearted – your nipples will be on show after all! If you want to try out this trend but don’t want to fully dive in, you can opt for a sheer shirt or jacket to layer over garments.
